Biometric screenings are offered routinely at all nutrition counseling sessions. It is most important that we “know our numbers”. Our Wellness Counselors educate shoppers on the benefits of conducting a personal health assessment and being mindful of key biometric numbers –height, weight, BMI, blood pressure and blood sugar. Three classes of screenings are offered:
General Screenings are recommended for everyone. General Screenings are only an assessment of current health status at the time of counseling. They are not meant to diagnosis disease or rule-out the presence of disease. They give an assessment of risk and offer preventive health measures.
- Hypertension Screening
- Blood Glucose / Diabetes Risk Assessment
- Body Mass Index Assessment
At Risk Screenings
At Risk Screenings offer a more in-depth health assessment. They are recommended for those who: are at the upper end of the normal ranges for healthy blood pressure and blood sugar; have a familial history of chronic disease; sometimes exhibit symptoms that are characteristic of chronic disease; desires a more comprehensive preventive health assessment.
- Lipid Panel: Total Cholesterol (LDL, HDL)
- Triglycerides (Measures fat in the blood)
- HbA1c (Measures blood sugar over 3 months)
Finger Stick Test
Advanced Diagnostics are recommended for those who have been diagnosed by a physician with a chronic disease. Advanced Diagnostics are elective testings but must be ordered by a physician. If you are recommended by our Wellness Counselors for further medical evaluation or follow-up, your medical provider may order one of the following tests.
- Heart & Vascular Risk Assessment (ultrasound testing for aneurysm, stroke risk, atrial-fibrillation)
